Privacy

Your privacy, in plain words.

Churches trust us with their pastor's words, and people trust their church when they ask a question in the chat. We take both seriously. Here's what we collect, what we don't, and what happens to it.

Effective October 9, 2026

The short version

  • No cookies, no analytics, no tracking. Not on getkeptword.com, and not in the chat on your church's website.
  • We don't save your chat questions. The only exception is when you click thumbs up or down on an answer.
  • We never sell personal information. Not to anyone, not ever.
  • Your church owns its sermons. We use them only to run your church's chat and materials.
  • Sermon audio is deleted once it's been turned into text, and that work happens on our own computers.
  • Answers are written by AI, using only your church's sermons, with links so you can check the source.
  • Just ask. Email nick@getkeptword.com to see what we have about you or to have it deleted.

Who we are

Kept Word LLC is a small company based in Washington State, run by me, Nick Martin. We make two things:

  • Kept Word Chat, a chat bubble on a church's website that answers questions using that church's own sermons.
  • The Complete Bundle, which adds study guides, sermon clips and social media posts made from those sermons.

This page covers getkeptword.com, the chat on any church's website, and the forms churches use to reach us and get set up. When this page says "we," it means Kept Word, which right now means me.

If you use the chat on your church's website

What happens when you ask a question. Your question goes to our server, which finds the parts of your church's sermons that best match it. Then your question and those sermon excerpts are sent to xAI, the AI company whose model (Grok) writes the answer. The answer comes back to you with links to the exact moments in your church's own YouTube videos.

What xAI does with it. xAI uses your question only to write the answer. It doesn't store your question once the answer is written, and it doesn't use what we send to train its AI.

What we save. Nothing about your conversation, unless you rate an answer. To write the answer, our server holds your question briefly in memory, and nothing about it is written down. Your browser remembers your last 30 messages so the chat doesn't vanish if you reload the page. That copy stays in your browser tab, and it's gone when you close the tab.

When you click thumbs up or down. We save the question, the answer, your rating, and any note or name you choose to add. Your rating is one of the best ways we learn: it tells us which answers helped and which missed the mark, so we can make the chat better for your church and everyone else. We use these only to improve answers. We don't save your IP address with them, and we delete them after 12 months.

Please don't share private things in the chat. The chat doesn't ask for your name or any personal information, and it doesn't need any. Please leave out names, health details, and other personal matters, including prayer requests about other people. If you need prayer or pastoral care, please contact your church directly. Real people there would love to help.

Kids. The chat isn't designed to collect personal information from anyone, including children, and it never asks for any. If someone mentions they're a child, the chat simply answers in simpler words. It doesn't collect anything extra.

AI answers aren't perfect. Every answer comes from your church's sermons, but it's written by AI and can occasionally get something wrong or miss something. That's why each answer links to the sermon it came from, so you can hear it in your pastor's own words. Please check anything that matters to you.

If you visit getkeptword.com

There are no cookies, no analytics, no ad trackers, and no third-party scripts or fonts. We don't know who you are, and we don't follow you around the web.

Like almost every website, our servers keep standard logs: your IP address, your browser type, and the page you asked for. These logs never include what you type into the chat. We use them only to keep things secure and stop abuse, and we delete them after 30 days.

To stop abuse, like someone flooding the chat with thousands of questions, our server briefly counts requests from each IP address in memory. Nothing from that is written down.

For our own usage records, we keep only the time of each answer and how much it cost us to write it. They don't include the question or your IP address.

If your church is a customer

Your sermons are yours. Your church owns its sermons and transcripts. We use them only to provide your church's services, and we never sell or share them. Your church's sermon library powers only your church's chat.

How we handle your sermons. We use your sermon audio only to turn it into text. That transcription runs on our own computers, not through an outside service, and we delete the audio when it's done. We don't host your audio or video. Answers link to your own YouTube videos.

Where it's stored. The transcripts and the search data built from them are stored on a server we rent from DigitalOcean in San Francisco, in the United States. Searching your sermons happens on that server too.

Who can see it. Only Kept Word can get into the server and the data. There's no church login or dashboard yet.

If you cancel. Within 30 days, we delete your church's sermon library, the feedback on your chat, and its logs. Before that happens, you can ask us for a copy of your transcripts.

If you contact us or fill out the setup form

The contact form on getkeptword.com asks for your name, church, email, phone number (optional), what you're interested in, and your message. It also notes your browser type. It's emailed to me through Cloudflare and Google. Cloudflare holds a copy only until it's delivered. If delivery fails, the copy is kept for up to 90 days so your message isn't lost.

The setup form (getkeptword.com/start) is for churches getting started. It asks for church and contact details, your plan, where your sermons are, your speakers, your preferences, and any files you upload, like a logo or statement of faith. Your answers are saved in my private Google Workspace account (Google Drive and Docs) and emailed to me. We keep them as long as your church is a customer or thinking about becoming one, and we delete them whenever you ask.

While you fill it out, the setup form saves your answers in your own browser so you don't lose your place. That copy is erased once you submit. If you're on a shared computer and stop partway through, you can erase it with the "Start over with a blank form" link that appears when you come back to the form, or by clearing your browser's data for getkeptword.com.
